School Pathway

Training Hours: 600

Complete 600 hours of approved esthetics education over at least four months. Applicants must pass the required written and practical examinations with a minimum score of 70 percent. The statutory scope includes cleansing, stimulating, manipulating, and beautifying the skin and permitted treatments for dehydration, temporary capillary dilation, oiliness, and clogged pores. Licenses renew every two years on September 30. No routine practitioner continuing-education requirement was identified. Endorsement applicants should document active licensure and qualifications substantially equivalent to Rhode Island's requirements.

Apprenticeship Pathway

Rhode Island's current cosmetology rules do not identify an esthetics apprenticeship route; the apprenticeship provisions apply to barbering.
