PATHWAYS TO LICENSURE

School Pathway

Training Hours: 600

Complete a Board-approved 600-hour esthetics program at a licensed Virginia school and pass both the Board-approved written and practical examinations. Substantially equivalent out-of-state education may qualify; applicants with training below Virginia's standard may need documented work experience under the Board's endorsement rules.

Apprenticeship Pathway

Virginia also recognizes a registered Esthetician apprenticeship administered through Virginia Works. The current DPOR licensing summary requires completion of the registered apprenticeship but does not state a single fixed hour total on the summary page.
